With the Alabama and Texas A&M game less than a week away, Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin said quarterback Johnny Manziel has requested not to do interviews at the behest of his attorneys and family. If the hype for Saturday's game wasn't enough, CBS, the station televising the SEC showdown, announced there will be a camera following Manziel for the entire game.
In the wake of the NCAA's investigation and subsequent suspension of Manziel, the reigning Heisman winner has kept relatively quiet. In perhaps his smartest decision, Manziel requested to be made unavailable to media this week.
Sumlin told reporters on Tuesday of Manziel's request, according to George Schroeder of USA Today Sports.
Although the country won't get much Johnny Football during the week, they'll have their fix and then some on Saturday when CBS devotes a camera solely to following Manziel. CBS is adding an additional camera, the "Johnny Cam," to cover Manziel's every move, according to Sports Illustrated.
"No matter where he is and no matter what part of the game it is, we will have a shot of it," CBS Sports coordinating producer Craig Silver told SI. "If he is anywhere in sight of that camera, we will catch it."
For those who've already had plenty of Manziel this summer, ESPN "Game Day" coordinating producer Lee Fitting tried to assuage fears that the much anticipated SEC bout would transform into "The Johnny Manziel Show."
"I can promise you the show won't turn into 'Manziel Mania' for three hours," Fitting told SI. "Will the viewer get their fill of Manziel? Sure. Will we cover every angle of the game? Yes. But will we go overboard? Absolutely not."
The Alabama-Texas A&M game is on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 3:30 p.m. ET. A live stream will be provided on game day.
