Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) will oppose Barack Obama's Iran deal, according to CNN. Menendez made a speech on Tuesday to explain why he's against the bill. He had a few things to say about President Barack Obama during the speech.
"I have looked into my own soul and my devotion to principle may once again lead me to an unpopular course, but if Iran is to acquire a nuclear bomb, it will not have my name on it," Menendez said. He said he will vote to disapprove the agreement, and would also vote to override any veto from the President, if need be.
"This deal grants Iran permanent sanctions relief in exchange for only temporary - temporary - limitations on its nuclear program," he said in the speech, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Menendez joins Chuck Schumer in opposing the deal. So far, they are the only two Democrats to speak out against it. All of the Senate Republicans are expected to oppose the deal. A total of 13 Democrats will have to join all of the Republicans in overturning a presidential veto.
The Senator spoke at Seton Hall University on Tuesday to discuss his opposition, according to Yahoo! News. He is a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
