Flying Robot International Film Festival (FRiFF) - first global festival to celebrate aerial cinema filmed by drones - is now scheduled for Nov. 19 in San Francisco, Calif. With the rise of unmanned aerial filming, the event is making a point to highlight short films in categories that often go unnoticed.
"[Flying Robot] isn't so much about the beauty of the films. The stories around some of the categories are just as important as the quality of the shots," event organizer Eddie Codel says, according to Wired.
There have been legal concerns on drones, with lawmakers arguing that drones pose dangers to commercial flights and can easily be used as weapons.
However, Codel pointed out that the flying robots serve great purposes too, as they help in fighting fires, finding missing people and delivering supplies in hard to reach areas and war zones.
"These stories of good don't get much attention so many people just assume the worst. With Drones for Good, I hope to offer another narrative as to why we should carefully consider drones as lawmakers start banning them everywhere," Huffington Post reports.
The festival is accepting submissions until Sept. 15.
Winners will receive cash prizes, drones and accessories.
Flying Robots will showcase films in six categories: Cinematic, Drones for Good, Aerial Sports, LOL WTF, I Made That! and Student Films, according to Business First.
