Michael Jordan's only daughter, Jasmine Jordan, recently came out via a cute and coupley Instagram photo of her and her girlfriend, whom she seems excited and ready to show off amid rumors that she is gay, the Huffington Post reports.
On Aug. 29, rumors circulated that Jasmine was dating women's basketball player Carmen Tyson-Thomas, fueled by a photo on Instagram in which Jasmine posed with the well-known player.
Later on that day, Jasmine Instagrammed the following message in response to the gossip: "Until Love, Trust, Honesty, Respect, Loyalty, Commitment, Genuine Happiness and other characteristics or aspects I want in a relationship is defined by one gender then and only then will i discuss my sexual preference."
Though Jasmine has not confirmed how she identifies her sexuality, be it gay, bisexual, or pansexual, her recent Instagram photos of her and Tyson-Thomas, whom she calls her "boo" and writes that she "loves," seem to be her way of coming out to the world. It's certainly an announcement worthy of congratulations, as Jasmine has previously admitted that she dislikes being in the spotlight, suggesting her latest post was a brave first step in taking pride in who she is in the face of critics and the media.
"I don't consider myself a celebrity or anything like that," Jasmine wrote in an Instagram post about people's interest in her sexuality. "I'm a human being. Nothing more or less! But PLEASE save your negativity for someone who's going to give a damn about it. That's not me though."
When Jasmine first began a college student, as she told Chicago blog The Boss Up that she was having some trouble fitting in Syracuse University, being the daughter of such as famous sports figure.
"I have no problem with people knowing me as Michael Jordan's Daughter," she said. "The issue comes when people make assumptions on who I am because I am his daughter. People assume I play basketball or wear Jordan's everyday and neither of those is true. I do not play basketball but I know the game. I don't wear Jordan's everyday because I like to switch it up. I always say I'm a pretty open book. You want to know what it is like being Michael Jordan's daughter just ask me instead of making assumptions and drawing incorrect conclusions about me."
