Jason Terry has finally decided where he is going to play his 17th season in the NBA after a couple of different teams made strong pushes to sign him. In the end Terry has reportedly decided to stay with the Houston Rockets on a one year deal, according to Sham Charania of Real GM. Terry's deal is reportedly worth the veteran's minimum of about $1.5 million for the 2015-16 season.
A little more than a week ago there were reports that Terry was unhappy with the offer the Rockets had made him and that he was seriously considering leaving Houston. The Rockets were only able to offer the minimum because they are over the cap but in the end Terry decided he wanted to be in the place where he has the best chance to win instead of taking more money.
The New Orleans Pelicans and the Utah Jazz reportedly had very strong talks with Terry's agent but to no avail. The Pelicans were able to offer Terry a little bit more money and a good situation with a team on the rise but the Rockets are championship ready now after making the Western Conference Finals a year ago.
Terry will be 38 when next season starts and he was a key contributor for the Rockets a year ago. Terry started all 17 playoff games for Houston after Patrick Beverley went down with an injury and provided great leadership. In 77 games last season Terry averaged 7 points in 21.3 minutes per game while knocking down 39 percent of his three point attempts. Terry isn't the great scorer he once was but he can still knock down the three ball with consistency and that is something that the Rockets love.
Earlier in the offseason the Rockets acquired Ty Lawson via trade and signed Marcus Thornton to make their guard rotation deeper. Thornton was likely just a hedge against Terry possibly signing elsewhere and neither of those acquisitions should effect Terry's playing time going into next season.
