Reports from a radio station run by the Israeli Defense Forces say that Hamas has captured a spy working for Israel. The spy in question is a dolphin, according to The Daily Mail. (That's right. It's time to re-examine "Flipper" episodes to see if the famous TV dolphin was really working for the Russians the whole time).
It's true that Israel maintains dolphin-class submarines, but the broadcast was clear in stating this is an actual mammalian dolphin - like the kind who do tricks at Sea World. This particular 007 was outfitted with spy equipment and cameras, The Daily Mail reported.
The dolphin was captured near the Gaza Strip, though the exact location is undisclosed. A Palestinian newspaper reported that the dolphin had a weapon: a lethal dart gun, according to The New York Daily News. This is not the first time non-human spies have been captured. Previously, sharks have been accused of being used by Israel as spies.
The dolphin has been detained by Hamas, but its current fate is unknown. The U.S. Navy has used dolphins in the past for bomb detection and other operations, according to The Inquisitr. Many animals have been arrested as spies in the Middle East, including 14 spy squirrels, in one incident.
