Maryland centenarian couple celebrated their 75th anniversary. Walter and Lisette Kimmel were married on August 18, 1940 and both are 100-years-old.
They held their 75th anniversary celebration at the Charlestown Retirement Community on Tuesday. According to Mel Tansill, the retirement community's spokesperson, their party had a band performing music for them and the local bakery, SugarBakers of Catonsville, Md., sponsored their personalized cake, USA Today reported. The party commenced at 2 p.m. which was the time of their wedding 75 years ago.
Lisette graduated from Catonsville High School while Walter went to the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. The couple met when they were both 22 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Baltimore where Lisette was in charge of playing the organ and Walter was part of the choir. That is when their love story began.
"After church one day, he came up to her to make their first date," Tansill wrote. "It was custom for boys to sit on one side of the church and girls on the other."
Throughout their marriage, Walter worked for Baltimore Gas and Electric while Lisette worked as a secretary. Their marriage blessed them with two sons, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, according to People.
A couple from Wisconsin, Arlene and Richard Baughman, also recently celebrated their 75th year together without any arguments, said on KPLC. One couple from Quincy, Wash., Walter and June Holmes, also celebrated their 75th anniversary on Friday, according to The Patriot Ledger.
