Molly Shattuck, the former Baltimore Ravens cheerleader who pled guilty to rape after admitting to having sex with an underage boy she met via social media, was sentenced Friday to 48 weeks in jail, according to Jayne Miller of WBAL-TV.
Shattuck "tearfully expressed remorse" and vehemently apologized to the boy and his family, according to WBAL. Shattuck's lawyers blamed her ex-husband leaving her for a younger woman as the reasoning behind her turning to a young boy for comfort.
The victim's parents, however, seemed unconvinced. They asked for incarceration, calling Shattuck a rapist and saying that the impact the incident has had on their son is "devastating." Shattuck cried throughout the sentencing, according to Miller.
Shattuck, 47, pled guilty to one count of fourth-degree rape in June, a charge which normally carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. Shattuck, who is the estranged wife of former Constellation Energy CEO Mayo Shattuck, was originally indicted in November in Delaware on nine counts, including four counts of unlawful sexual contact, a Class F felony, and three counts of distributing alcohol to a minor, a misdemeanor.
Shattuck eventually admitted that she had performed a sexual act on a 15-year-old boy that she met on social media at a beach house in Delaware last Labor Day.
Shattuck will serve her sentence over a two-year period.
