Breaking Bad, One of AMC's most popular dramas, will end its run after the Sept. 29 finale of the fifth season. After that fans will no longer have the meth cooking-based crime drama to turn to when they need to take a swim in the underground world of crime in Arizona - Or will they?
AMC and Sony Pictures Television confirmed on Wednesday that they have reached a licensing agreement to produce a spinoff series of Vince Gilligan's popular "Breaking Bad."
Which character will be getting the spotlight you might ask? Well it's neither Walt nor Jesse. What if we told you the spinoff would be a prequel to the series, showing one of the character's rise before he even meets Bryan Cranston's Walter White. Perhaps Jonathan Banks' Mike Ehrmantraut or Dean Norris' Hank Schrader? Nope, even better. The show's working title at the moment is "Better Call Saul," according to IGN.
That's right, Walter White's sleazy and corrupt lawyer, and fan favorite of the series, Sal Goodman will be getting spinoff that will focus on the evolution of the character before he gets involved with Walter and Jesse's meth business.
Bob Odenkirk, the actor who made Saul so popular, will reprise his role in an hour-long series. The working title of the series comes from the original episode from Season 2 of "Breaking Bad" where the character is first introduced. Odenkirk, with a strong comedy background, has provided the comic relief for the series since his character's debut. The spinoff will likely be significantly less dark than the original.
"I would love to see a Saul Goodman spinoff," said creator Vince Gilligan in a July 2012 interview, via Deadline. "I like the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer will do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law. He'll settle on the courthouse steps, whatever it takes to stay out of the courtroom. That would be fun - I would like that."
