A massive 920 pound alligator was recently caught in Lake Eufaula in southeast Alabama. It took six men to pull in and secure the alligator which was measured to be 13 feet and 6 inches.
The reptile was initially caught by Scott Evans, along with his friends, Jeff and Justin Gregg on August 14. According to the trio's testimony, the alligator got out of the first hook, forcing them to follow it for another 75 yards before hooking it a second time.
After the capture, the alligator was taken and weighed at Dixon Lumber Co. in Eufaula, where they received confirmation of their 920-pound capture, according to Fox News.
"We knew it was big," Evans said. "We took some measurements of its girth, base and around its tail."
"It is pretty amazing when you think about it," he added.
The reptile, which is expected to produce 250 pounds of meat, "won't go to waste," Evans said, reported USA Today. He's been collecting some new recipes and is planning a big Labor Day cookout.
In Alabama, alligator records are measured by length rather than weight. As such, the gator is expected to be a Lake Eufaula record breaker for its 13-foot 6-inch size, according to AL.com.
However, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Wildlife Biologist Richard Tharp asserts that he can't make a final decision regarding the record, until he receives paperwork about the gator.
