A Pennsylvania doctor was released on bail after being charged with attempted murder of his estranged son-in-law in Cleveland last month, ABC News reported.
Dr. Georges J. Bensimhon, 66, allegedly hid outside his daughter's estranged husband's home in Cleveland Heights and waited to attack him, according to police.
Bensimhom, an anesthesiologist from Allentown, Pa., is accused of beating Dr. Seth Hoffer, 39, with a pry bar.
After Bensimhom reportedly jumped out from a bush and began attacking his former son-in-law, Hoffer fought back against him, breaking his arm and pinning him to the ground. Hoffer told police after he heard his attacker say "Alan, get off of me! I can't breathe," he realized the assailant was Bensimhom.
Hoffer was preparing to leave for the airport to visit his one-year-old daughter in Florida, where she and his soon-to-be ex-wife, Danielle Bensimhon, live. The couple is in the middle of getting divorced.
After he was arrested, police found sedatives and syringes in Bensimhom's possession. The anesthesiologist is free after posting $500,000 bond on Wednesday after being formally charged with attempted murder, attempted aggravated murder, kidnapping, and assault.
His next court appearance is scheduled for September 25 and is expected to enter a plea.
Bensimhom has not made a public comment on the matter.
