Turkey and the U.S. will provide the air support for Syrian rebels on the ground. Their goal is to pull ISIS away from a particular area of the Turkish border. Cutting off this access could change things considerably in the region.
The combined operation is known as "Inherent Resolve." The operation is already underway. The U.S. Air Force recently moved a half-dozen F-16 fighter jets from Italy to Turkey, according to Fox News. From there, they can get quickly into the airstrike zone to target ISIS.
Turkey has previously conducted airstrikes against ISIS in the past, but the country has most recently been engaged battling Kurdish militants in the area, according to Business Insider.
