Malachi Bradley, the 10-year-old boy who disappeared while hiking in Utah with his family, has been found, according to the Associated Press. He was found more than 24 hours after originally getting lost looking for mushrooms near a mountain lake.
The young boy was reunited with his family on Monday at about 3 p.m., according to NBC News.
The family had been camping near Paul Lake above Paradise Park Campground, according to the Daily Mail. The family left on a hike together before the boy went off on his own at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
The area is full of dense foliage and devoid of cell phone service, according to NBC News. After a half an hour of no return, Bradley's father left the campground in Ashley National Forest to call 911, according to the AP.
Bradley's aunt, Lori Matthews, told reporters that the boy was well-prepared for wilderness survival, recently being taught survival skills by his father, according to NBC News.
When he was found, the boy told reporters how he made it through the night.
"There's just a ton of giant rocks, so I hid between four of them so the wind wouldn't hit me too much," he said, according to NBC News.
The area is known for easily confusing hikers, sudden changes in weather making it equally dangerous. A 12-year-old boy disappeared in the area in 2004. No trace of the boy has ever been found.
