Family Dog Saves 7-Month Old From Abusive Babysitter: Pet's Protective Instincts Cause Parents to Investigate the 'Wrath of Khan' (PHOTOS/VIDEO)

A Charleston, SC couple say their beloved family dog was able to help "sniff" out a bad babysitter, Live 5 News reports, the bad sitter pleading guilty to assault and battery on their then seven month-old son.

Twenty-two year old Alexis Khan was hired by Benjamin and Hope Jordan last year to care for their son, Finn, after the couple recently moved to Charleston. Khan came clean when they did a background check, and the Jordans initially found her to be a "good fit" for their family. But not long after hiring her, the Jordans began to notice some suspicious behavior from their canine companion, causing them to worry.

"About five months into her being our babysitter, we started to notice that our dog was very protective of our son when she would come in the door," Benjamin Jordan told Live 5. "He was very aggressive towards her and a few times we actually had to physically restrain our dog from going towards her."

It was then that Hope Jordan's motherly instincts kicked in, and she came up with a plan of action. In order to investigate what was going on, the Jordans placed an iPhone under the couch as a tape recorder to let it pick up what might going on while they were at work. What they heard on the audio recordings horrified them.

"It started with cussing," Jordan said. "Then you hear slap noises and his crying changes from a distress cry to a pain cry. I just wanted to reach through the audio tape, go back in time and just grab him up. To know that five months I had handed my child to a monster, not knowing what was going on in my house for that day."

Several weeks later, Khan was arrested and confessed to her crimes, meaning that she will be placed on the child abuse registry and will no longer be allowed to work with children. In addition, she will serve one to three years in prison and will then be eligible for parole.

"That is fantastic news to us to know that maybe Finn's ordeal has possibly saved another child's life in the future," Benjamin Jordan said. "Had our dog not alerted us to the trouble, had my wife's instincts not said we need to make something happen, it could have been Finn that was killed by the babysitter. You never know."

Thankfully, Finn Jordan seems to be doing fine now, and does not appear to have suffered any lasting effects from the abuse.
