Two million pounds of Oscar Mayer Brand turkey that can prematurely spoil have been recalled, Kraft Heinz announced Tuesday.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture revealed in a news release that the 2,068,467 pounds of Oscar Mayer turkey bacon "may be adulterated because it may spoil before the 'Best When Used By' date." The company discovered the problem following "spoilage-related consumer complaints," including reports of "illness related to the consumption of these products."
The recall is classified as "Class II," meaning that there is a "remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product," according to NBC.
The affected turkey bacon was packaged between May 31 and Aug. 6, reported Fortune. The products subject to recall are:
• Oscar Mayer "Selects Uncured Turkey Bacon" bearing the plant number P-9070, the line number RS19 and Product UPC 0 4470007633 0
• Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon “Smoked Cured Turkey Chopped and Formed” bearing the plant number P-9070, the line number RS19 and Product UPC 0 7187154874 8
• Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon “Smoked Cured Turkey Chopped and Formed” bearing the plant number P-9070, the line number RS19 and Product UPC 0 7187154879 3
While the range of impacted products and the health risks they present are low, this is more negative press for the industry giant. In March, Kraft recalled 242,000 Cases of Macaroni & Cheese due to complaints of metal pieces being found inside, and earlier this month, Kraft Heinz announced 2,500 job cuts.
