Brittany Pilkington: Death Penalty Possible for Mom Accused of Killing 3 Young Sons

Brittany Pilkington, accused of killing her three young boys just so her daughter could get more attention from their father, may receive the death penalty.

The Ohio resident was indicted Tuesday on three charges of aggravated murder after confessing to authorities that she did kill her three sons, all under 5 years old, according to Cleveland.com.

The children, 3-month-old Noah and Niall Pilkington and 4-year-old Gavin Pilkington were all killed at different times, according to the NY Daily News. Pilkington confessed on Aug. 18. after the death of the last child, Noah.

Gavin died April 2014 and Niall died a few months later in July of that same year.

Authorities did notice evidence of neglect and Pilkington's lack of emotion at their deaths, but nothing specifically pointed to her killing her children.

Logan County Prosecutor William Goslee doesn't believe the jury will convict on a death penalty charge though, given the mother's hard past, which included an abusive childhood and life with her controlling husband, who previously was her mother's boyfriend, according to Yahoo News.

"To imagine a jury that would say that this is a person with a depraved heart that should die at the hands of some chemistry (lethal injection), I don't think that's likely," said Goslee.

The husband, Joseph Pilkington, 43, is not considered a suspect.

The couple's daughter Hailey is now in child protective services.
