The Phoenix Suns currently have 13 players with guaranteed contracts on their roster but it looks as though they will be adding a few guys on non-guaranteed deals. Henry Sims who was not retained by the Philadelphia 76ers this season and Cory Jefferson who was not retained by the Brooklyn Nets are the two newest signings for the Suns, according to Paul Coro of The Arizona Republic.
Both Jefferson and Sims are frontcourt players who will be given a shot to compete in training camp with the possibility of making the 15 man roster. The Suns current frontline has some question marks as there appears to be no end in sight on the Markieff Morris saga after he demanded a trade. Aside from Morris the Suns have Tyson Chandler, Alex Len, Mirza Teletovic and Jon Leuer as their frontcourt players heading into next season so they could use some depth.
Sims is a 25 year old center who spent all of last season with the Philadelphia 76ers and was very productive for them in limited minutes. Sims averaged 15.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per 36 minutes but wasn't retained because the 76ers are now extremely deep at the center position. Sims is a former undrafted free agent but he was once a top 50 recruit out of high school so he has a chance to contribute for the Suns should he make the team.
Jefferson is a 24 year old power forward who was the 60th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. In 50 games with the Nets a season ago Jefferson was also extremely productive in limited minutes averaging 12.4 points and 9.8 rebounds per 36 minutes. Jefferson consistently knocked down mid-range jump shots and was a beast on the glass that showed a high motor so he too may have a shot to do some things with the Suns.
The way it stands now the Suns have 15 players that will be joining them in training camp. Although Jefferson and Sims' deals will reportedly be non-guaranteed they showed flashes a season ago of being productive NBA players and should have a very good shot of making the roster out of training camp.
