Lionsgate announced that Julianne Moore has been to cast to star in "Hunger Games: Mockingjay" as President Alma Coin, The Wrap reports. Moore will be the play the person who leads the rebellion against The Capitol in the third and fourth sequels which is scheduled to hit theaters November 2014 and 2015 respectively.
Moore will join other newbies including "Game of Thrones" actress Natalie Dorman, Stef Dawson and Evan Ross. Dormer has been cast as Cressida in "Mockingjay" the film director who flees The Capitol to join the rebellion. Along for the journey is Castor, Pallux and Massalla. The camera crew ends up following Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) to get rare footage of the uprising.
"Dormer is one of the hottest actresses on the scene right now. She portrays Margaery Tyrell in HBO's Game of Thrones and will be seen in Ron Howard's Rush this September as well as in Ridley Scot's The Counselor in October," USA Today reports.
Lionsgate revealed that Ross will be playing Massalla and Dawson will star as Annie Cresta, a victor from District 4 and the love interest of victor Finnick Odair. Cresta was first mentioned in the second sequel "Catching Fire" when she was reaped to compete in the Third Quarter Quell but an older tribute volunteered in her place.
Her character was minor in "Catching Fire" but will be a lot more significant in the follow up sequels. The second installment "Catching Fire" will hit theaters Nov. 22. Lawrence recently spoke to Vogue magazine about how excited she was for fans to see her character develop.
"When Winter's Bone was getting nominated I had only done indies, and suddenly I was introduced to this brand-new world where I didn't feel like myself," Lawrence said. "I was in these weird gowns and listening to people talk about things I didn't understand. And I remember reading that in the book and being like, Oh, my God, I know exactly what this feels like.
I don't know what it's like to get ready for your death, but I do know what it's like to be almost a puppet. And then when I was making the second film, I had become more acquainted with that world, and I think that's something that Katniss experiences. She is different when she comes back. She does feel more comfortable in the Capitol; she understands the people more, and it's not as eerie and scary and unfamiliar. She kind of knows how to work the system."
Do you think Julianne Moore will be a good President Alma?
