Jerry Seinfeld: Lemonade Stand For Charity Shut Down By Police

Jerry Seinfeld’s son and his friend tried to raise some money for charity with an innocent lemonade stand in East Hampton, N.Y., but one neighborhood Scrooge called the police to shut it down last week.

East Hampton police received a complaint about cars parked illegally near the lemonade stand on Aug. 18, according to the Hamptons local news outlet 27east.com. The responding officer informed the Seinfeld family that lemonade stands are not permitted under village code because they’re consider a form of peddling, which is prohibited on village property.

Fortunately, the lemonade stand brought in a good amount of money before the shutdown. The Seinfelds even made light of the situation in a photo posted by Jerry’s wife Jessica that showed her husband, son Julian and his two friends standing with their hands behind their heads. The responding officer is seen in the background by his patrol car.

“Lemonade dreams crushed by local neighbor but not before raising lots of money for @loverecycled. Thanks to all of our customers and big tippers!” Jessica captioned the Instagram photo. “Thanks Xander and Jaden for crushing it today with Julian and Jerry.”

The money went toward Jessica’s charity Baby Buggy, which provides families under financial strain with new or gently used clothing and child care items.
