Justin Bieber works a little harder these days to gauge whether he can trust a person after too many burned him or left him heartbroken.
"Trusting people is hard, especially for me. I've trusted people who I probably shouldn't have trusted before and they've hurt my heart," Bieber said on "Elvis Duran and The Morning Show" on Friday. "I'm a pretty sensitive guy, so I'll lay it all on the line, and they'll kind of pull it. So now I'm figuring out there's certain people I can't do that with."
The "Boyfriend" singer didn't mention anyone specifically. He does realize that losing one person's trust doesn't mean he can't trust the next person that comes along.
"Here's what I'll tell that people: Don't let someone who ruined your trust ruin the next person's chance to gain that trust. I think I let that affect me and change the way I looked at people for a while," he said.
The 21-year-old performer has spent much of this year turning his life around after a turbulent 2014. He dropped the first single, "What Do You Mean," off his upcoming fourth studio album on Friday along with a lyric video featuring skateboard stars Ryan Sheckler and Chelsea Castro.
Bieber will perform "What Do You Mean" at the MTV VMA's on Sunday, Aug. 30 at 9 p.m. EDT.
