A plain and blank white wall does nothing to liven up a room. In most cases, this is a renter's problem, as apartments usually restrict irreversible fixes, such as wall painting, to a minimum. Not to worry, though, as there are some solutions to improving that empty wall space.
1. Use Fabric
Hang fabric as a wallpaper alternative. You'll need liquid starch like Sta-flo to hold it up and it won't do any damage to the wall, according to Home Talk. If you're not too skilled at laying this out, you can place the fabric inside photo frames and hang these on the wall as decorative art pieces. Use removable wall hooks or adhesives to leave no permanent damage.
2. Install a mirror
Mirrors help open up a tiny room or enhance the decoration in the house. But these have to be strategically placed so that it reflects and bounces off light at good angles. "The worst thing a decorator can do is hang mirrors so they're reflecting random things in your home," said Vanessa Deleon, a decorator and home improvement TV host, according to Fox News. If you're up to it, make the mirror a decorative item in itself by choosing a nice frame for it or by playing with how it is placed on the wall.
4. Add shelves
By putting shelves on a white wall, you can easily decorate the space with various shapes, objects and colors that add more dimension to the room. Display favorite pieces, family photos and other knick-knacks on the shelves. There are plenty of shelving systems at Ikea.
5. Use self-adhesive wall decals
One of the most fun ways to decorate a blank space is to use wall decals. They add instant color and personality to the room, and they come in various themes and designs that fit anyone's preference. Since these use adhesives, you can change or reposition the decals when the mood strikes. Find great selections of wall decals at All Posters.
