Iran: 10 Years Espionage Sentencing For Two

Two people have been sentenced to 10 years each in jail on espionage charges from the U.S. and Israel. The two have not been named, according to The Guardian. "These two people were sentenced to 10 years in jail by the Revolutionary Court," judicial spokesman Gholam hossein Mohseni Eje'i said.

While the rest of the world awaited the news of Jason Rezaian, an Iranian-American reporter for the Washington Post, the news broke about the other sentencing. Rezaian has been held over a year on espionage charges and his final hearing was earlier this month.

Eje'i said he did not know if Rezaian was sentenced, according to Yahoo! News. "Our understanding is the judiciary spokesman said later that he had no new information on Jason," the Post's foreign editor, Douglas Jehl, said in a statement: "For that reason, we believe that Jason was not among those whose sentences, but not identities, were announced today."

Rezaian's lawyer, Leila Ahsan, said the case "has nothing to do with my client." Ahsan went on to say the court has not ruled on Rezaian yet, according to FOX News.

The revolutionary courts deal with national security crimes and have been widely criticized by human rights groups for their harsh sentencing and frequent death penalty sentencing.
