After owning a domain titled 'NSA.org' for 18 long years, 40-year-old IT consultant, Chris Fisher, has decided to sell email addresses and sub-domains for a "bargain price" of $100.
If you are a NSA fan, then you might dig this. Chris Fisher is selling email addresses and sub-domains with NSA.org for anyone who is willing to pay $100. This is not an official NSA one of course but a similar one for sure, except it ends with .org. It may not be of much use for many but some might find it fascinating and fun, like the 40-year-old Fischer.
Fisher, an IT consultant, registered the domain in 1995 due to his interest in the hack scene.
"it was a fun domain to irc [an Internet chat protocol] from for trash talking and bustups with rival hackers (yeah, LOL)," he told Mashable in an emailed statement.
Fisher's interest in collecting unique domains can be associated with a hobby like collecting stamps or coins. He also owns a domain name "tacobell.com" among various others.
Fisher further said to Mashable that he received several offers for his NSA.org domain in the past but had no intention to sell it at then. He also revealed "one of the highest offers I received was from the National Smokers Association in the late 1990s," but failed to specify the offered amount.
The reason to sell the domain comes as a result of his break from consulting job. Also the notoriety NSA gained in the past few months (for Edward Snowden's leaked documents) has garnered more interest. It looked like the perfect time to sell.
"I personally feel it would be pretty hilarious to have dox [documents] coming out from the domain," he added.
"I figured this would be a decent source of income while living in super cheap Oregon," he said. Fisher expressed he plans to partner with WikiLeaks but did not disclose his plans in detail.
In the mean time, we wish Fisher good luck with his new part-time job involving his unique domains.
