Nintendo has announced that the smaller version of the New Nintendo 3DS will be coming to North America on Sept. 25th with the goal of giving users an alternative to their current model, which is XL-only, reported Time. The announcement was made at GameStop's annual Managers Conference in Las Vegas on Monday.
The announcement comes after the New Nintendo 3DS XL was released in the U.S. this winter with no option of a smaller size, despite the fact that the pocket-sized model was released in Japan.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime claims that the reason for the wait was the lack of demand in Japan. "We analyzed the results in Japan and saw the lion's share of the volume was on the XL model," he said.
The company made a hint at the release of the smaller sized console back at E3 in June and demand has been increasing by North American gamers not satisfied with the large size of the New Nintendo 3DS.
The smaller-sized system is only available in a special bundle with Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and will be priced at $219.99. It will come with cover plates, an amiibo card, a 4GB SDHC memory card and six augmented reality cards, according to Nintendo Life.
As of now, details of customization options are unknown, but the New Nintendo 3DS released in Japan currently has 64 different faceplate designs to choose from, reported Wired.
