Although representatives from Apple have declined to comment as of yet, it looks like the technology giant is looking to get into original programming, according to Variety. The company reportedly met up with executives in Hollywood over the last few weeks in order to make the dive into producing entertainment content.
Although it is yet to be known just how far Apple is going to get its arm into the industry of content production, a high-level executive spoke from within the company and claims that their goal is to create new divisions of the company that can produce long-form content to stream in order to compete with Netflix.
Whether this will include TV, movies or both is yet to be known.
Netflix has had great success with its original shows including "House of Cards" and "Orange is the New Black". Despite this success, its shares took a dive of more than 8 percent to $105.74 on Tuesday, and Amazon, who also creates it own streaming video content, declined 2.2 percent to $501.64, reported Reuters.
Apple recently mad a bid to secure the stars of the BBC auto show Top Gear, which ultimately failed when they ended up signing with Amazon, reported USA Today.
In addition to Netflix and Amazon, Apple will also be going head-to-head with Hulu, a joint movie and TV show streaming venture between NBC, Fox and ABC.
