Floyd Mayweather Jr. appears to have taken a shot at Canelo Alvarez's promoter and mentor, Oscar De La Hoya. Mayweather posted to Instagram a meme that mocks De La Hoya's return to rehab and suggests Alvarez lost because his promoter was high, TMZ reports.
Mayweather posted a meme on Wednesday to his Instagram page that depicted one reason Alvarez might have lost.
The Mayweather-Alvarez bout ended in a majority-decision win for Mayweather. Despite the 36-year-old's better performance, one judge questionably scored the fight as a draw, 114-114. The two other judges scored 117-111 and 116-112, according to USA Today Sports.
With Saturday's win, Mayweather moved to a 45-0 record.
De Lay Hoya, the president of Golden Boy promotions, was expected to be in attendance on Saturday for the Mayweather-Alvarez fight. Instead, he announced earlier last week that he would be returning to rehab after relapsing in to substance abuse.
"Canelo Alvarez and I have big fights coming up this weekend," De La Hoya said in a statement last week, via ESPN. "His is the ring and mine in treatment. I will not be at the fight to cheer Canelo to victory since I have voluntarily admitted myself into a treatment facility.
"I explained this to Canelo, and he understood that my health and long-term recovery from my disease must come first."
He didn't say what substance he was using, but he had admitted in the past to abusing alcohol and cocaine, according to ESPN.
Mayweather and De La Hoya have a history together. The two fought in 2007, when Mayweather won the light middleweight title by split decision.
