Colin Farrell hasn't had a cigarette in two years, and it turns out he quit smoking in a unique and unusual, but obviously effective, way by writing himself a breakup letter of sorts.
The 39-year-old "True Detective" star opened up to Men's Health for their September issue about his life as a single dad, and how he puts his two kids before everything, according to Entertainment Tonight. On the cover, Farrell stuns in a plain white t-shirt and jeans, looking impressively in shape. It turns out, he quit smoking and hasn't had a drink in eight years.
"I wrote a breakup letter to the Spirit of Tobacco," he revealed. "I got a frying pan and tossed the letter with a load of tobacco, put some paraffin over it, and lit a match that sent a big, wallowing cloud up into the sky. Then, I didn't have a cigarette for another two years."
Although this isn't the most traditional way to do it, it obviously worked. Back in 2012, he told Larry King that he was smoking up to 50 cigarettes a day, according to Yahoo. So, it's nice to see he's kicked the horrible habit.
After quite a rough past involving drugs, drinking and even a stint in rehab, Farrell is just happy that's all behind him.
"All the madness and all the chaos and all the people around me got so tiring after a while that I had to find another way, and while I don't live a monk-like existence, I have a new appreciation for solitude that would have terrified me years ago," he told Telegraph last year. "And I'm glad the madness is over. It was interesting to experience, but I'm glad it's passed."
