Natalia Strelchenko, the famed concert pianist, was found beaten to death in the Manchester home that she shared with her husband, John Martin, the Daily Mail reported. Martin was charged with murder in connection to her death.
Martin, 48, was charged with murdering Strelchenko, according to the local paper Manchester Evening News, and was also charged with attempted murder of a 14-year-old boy. He's due to appear before the Manchester and Salford magistrates court on Wednesday.
Strelchenko, who also went by the last name Strelle, was found beaten and unresponsive in her home in Newton Heath on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail. Cops responded to a call at the home at around 12:45 a.m. and tried to revive her. She later died at a nearby hospital from head and neck injuries, according to a post-mortem examination. She was 38-years-old.
"Natalia was a talented, beautiful, much loved mother, daughter, sister and friend. She will be greatly missed," her family said in a statement obtained by the Guardian.
Strelchenko was born in Russia and attended the Petersburg State Conservatory and Norwegian Academy of Music. She earned a Ph.D in arts research from Norway's leading music academy and enjoyed global success as a concert pianist. She performed at world-renowned venues like at the Wigmore Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Franzosische Dom in Berlin.
