Corn Recalled For Listeria Risk: 9,335 Cases Of Frozen Corn Pulled Out From 14 States

Bonduelle announced a recall Monday of 9,335 cases of frozen corn because of possible contamination of the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The corn packages being recalled were from the following brands with corresponding codes: Wylwood Super Sweet Whole Kernel Corn, codes K51564 and K51574; Market Basket Cut Corn, code K51574; Bountiful Harvest Whole Kernel Cut Corn, code K51574; and West Creek Frozen Vegetables Cut Corn, code K51574. All recalled products bear the "Best By June 2017" label.

The products were distributed in 14 states: Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Vermont.

The company issued the recall after a product tested by the State of Tennessee turned out to be contaminated with L. monocytogenes. Bonduelle is working with the FDA to determine the source of infection.

Listeria causes listeriosis, which primarily affects pregnant women, older adults, adults with weak immune system and newborns. Other people may also be affected in some cases. The symptoms of listeriosis include muscle aches, diarrhea, fever, gastrointestinal symptoms, fatigue, confusion and convulsions, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

No illness associated with the recalled products has been reported so far. However, consumers are advised not to eat such products but to get rid of them.
