Cecily Strong: SNL's New Weekend Update Anchor; NBC to Add Six New 'Featured Players' to Sketch Comedy Show (VIDEO)

Cecily Strong will join Seth Meyers behind the Weekend Update anchor desk, when Saturday Night Live returns to NBC Sept. 28.

And as most SNL fans know, she's got some pretty big shoes to fill.

Strong, who has been on the cast of the sketch comedy show for one year, will make her first appearance on Update for the season premier of the show - hosted, funnily enough, by ex-"anchor" Tina Fey.

According to USA Today, producer Lorne Michaels reported the change in casting during an interview with the New York Times published on Sunday night. She said that Strong, "from the first show, was right there. She exploded." Strong is most known for her guest appearances on Weekend Update as The Girl You Wished You Hadn't Started a Conversation With at a Party.

NBC also reported they'd be adding six new "featured players" to join the cast later in September. That's the most additions the comedy show has put on the lineup in years, no doubt to fill the holes left by Kristen Wiig, Andy Samberg, Bill Hader and Fred Armisen.

Fellow Updater Seth Meyers is also slated to leave the show in the middle of the season, as he is starting his own talk show that will air four times a week. He also announced recently that his wife, Emily Blunt, is now pregnant. Producer Michaels hinted during her New York Times interview that she'll try her best to get Meyers to make regular appearances on Weekend Update.

The new "players" are rumored to be Beck Bennett, Brooks Wheelen, Kyle Mooney, John Milhiser, Noah Wells, and SNL writer Mike O'Brien.
