A new report from Pew Research Center reveals that 63 percent of the Americans prefer to use their smartphones when surfing the Internet.
With the increasing use of smartphones also follows the rising use of internet on mobile phones. The percentage has doubled compared to the for mobile Internet record since 2009. People are not only using their smartphones to browse the Internet or access emails from their mobile handsets, some 21 percent of adults are also using their smartphones online than they do using computers.
Aaron Smith, senior researcher of the Pew project, reported that majority of the American population now uses a smartphone and that mobile devices play an integral part in how the public accesses online information and services.
"For many, such as younger adults or lower-income Americans, cell phones are often a primary device for accessing online content -- a development that has particular relevance to companies and organizations seeking to reach these groups," Smith wrote in the report.
The study was also able to confirm that 91 percent of Americans own mobile phones. By 2012, 63 percent of smartphone users go online using their phones compared to 31 percent back in 2009.
Most of the people who use their smartphones to go online belong to the age group 18 to 29 years old which accounts to 85 percent of the population in the study. African Americans users are 74 percent, college-level users are at 74 percent, the affluent are 79 percent and the residents in urban areas at 66 percent.
It was apparent that older people are less likely to be use smartphones to go online but surprisingly, adults within the age group of 50 to 64 are beginning to join the list.
There was a remarkable 15 percent increase within the age group that uses smartphones to access the internet. The people from this group who use mobile handsets to go online have increased to 51 percent compared to 36 percent in spring last year.
The Pew Research Center based this study from survey data from over 2,250 participants from April to May 2013.
