Reboots and revivals seem to be all the rage on TV at the moment, with "The X-Files" and "Full House" as just two examples of older series making a comeback to the airwaves. But Nickelodeon may be trying to take this concept to the next level. The network is rumored to be considering bringing back popular series from the past for new generations of fans. This plan reportedly extends further than the likes of "Hey Arnold!" and "Rugrats," as classic cartoons may be re-tooled for new series, films or specials.
The plan sounds as if it is still just in the incubation phase at the moment. Nickelodeon's president of content and development, Russell Hicks, isn't letting the cat out of the bag just yet, revealing only that the network has an eye on its past programming as potential future properties.
"We are looking at our library to bring back ideas, shows that were loved, in a fresh way," Hicks told Variety.
At this time, it is unknown which shows the network may be considering or what format they may be delivered in. However, the report did list the aforementioned "Rugrats" and "Hey Arnold!" as possibilities in addition to older classics such as "The Adventures of Pete & Pete," "Hey Dude," "Double Dare," "Legends of the Hidden Temple," "Salute Your Shorts" and even "All That." The network has a wide array of options to choose from should they push forward with this idea.
Hicks seems focused on appealing to the nostalgic sides of older fans who are introducing '80s and early '90s cartoons to their young children.
"We [Nickelodeon] are getting ready to bring back some of the ones they've [the audience] told us multiple times they want to have brought back."
