Perfume: The Best Ways To Wear Perfume So It Lasts Longer

How difficult is it to wear perfume? For most people, a spritz on the wrist or neck is enough. Yet, if you find that the scent doesn't last through the day, it could mean that you're wearing perfume the wrong way.

"It's extremely important for perfume to be applied to the correct parts of the body, not only to enhance your scent, but also to avoid wastage, as some areas work better than others and you want you to get the most out of your treasured scents," said fragrance expert Michelle D'vaz-Plant of the The Perfume Shop, via Daily Mail.

The expert recommend spraying perfume on your body's "naturally warmer areas," such as the wrist, the nape, the inside of the elbows and the hipbones.

"When your body warms, those pulse points turn warm very quickly and stay warmer for longer, so the reaction between the temperature of your skin and the scent will radiate your perfume for others to smell." D'vaz-Plant said.

The same tip is what beauty blogger Michelle Phan also recommends, adding that spraying perfume on these areas of the body must only be done to a minimum. One or two sprays will do. She also suggests holding off rubbing the wrists after spraying as "the friction and heat increases the interaction between the perfume and skin's natural oils, which can change the scent," she wrote on her blog.

The best time to apply perfume is when you've just gotten a shower and have dried off. For better results, apply an unscented moisturizer before spraying to keep your skin hydrated. Dry skin doesn't work well for all beauty products, including perfume, according to Bustle.

It is okay to spray perfume on your clothes and your hair as these will help keep the scent lasting longer. But, as always, don't overdo it so as not to emit an intense amount of scent. If you have sprayed too much, quickly swab a cotton with alcohol on to the spot, as this will dilute the overbearing scent, according to Pop Sugar, or better yet, use the "spray and walk through" technique.

Store your perfume in a cool spot and not under direct sunlight. Doing so will keep the scent intact for up to two years.
