Over the last 18 months, soccer Legend David Beckham has continued to search for a location for a stadium for his future MLS club in Miami. It appears that talks of an official location are getting closer to completion, according to MLSSoccer.com.
Beckham recently revealed in an interview with Sky Sports, that an announcement on a stadium location is coming sooner than later. Which is good news for Beckham and for MLS as a whole.
Miami used to hold a professional team, the Miami Fusion, but that club folding back in 2001. Beckham is not interested in using the Fusion name again and wants to make certain the new club has a new identity.
Soccer fans in Miami are hungry for professional soccer in their city again, especially with a strong Hispanic population. Having a local professional team would greatly benefit the growth of the game and popularity of MLS in Florida.
Beckham and Miami's Mayor, Tomas Regalado, want this deal done quickly. Not only will adding a team to Miami continue the growth of Major League Soccer, but it will build a potential rivalry with Orlando City SC, something that also benefits both clubs and league.
