Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones is expected to be alright after a health scare Wednesday night. Last year's National Champion quarterback was taken to the hospital and was released and is said to be doing fine, according to Columbus Dispatch reporter Bill Rabinowitz.
Jones was brought to the hospital for a severe headache, according to ESPN's Austin Ward. Jones' mother Florence said, "He is good, just a headache," according to Toledo Blade reporter David Briggs.
Head issues are something that should not be taken lightly especially with the information out today about concussions and head trauma. It will be likely that Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer tentatively watches Jones this week in practice and will likely determine if there are any differences in his play since the incident.
The redshirt junior had an amazing run at the end of last season, winning three games including two BCS playoff games. Jones has been competing for the starting quarterback position with J.T. Barrett. Both quarterbacks have had astonishing resumes, but Jones' first three starts included a National Championship and took over all talk of college football.
Either quarterback will be lucky, because Ohio State has one of the best running backs in college football in Ezekiel Elliot. Elliot will take the load off either quarterback and is likely to be in the Heisman Trophy race. The Buckeyes have their first game Monday night against Virginia Tech.
"I have an idea who's gonna take the first snap. The favorite? I'm not sure I like that word, but I have a feeling on who's gonna take the first snap. I still think that after today," Meyer said, according to Ward.
Meyer suggested that there was even a possibility of them using both quarterbacks, and it's not far-fetched, as Meyer used both Chris Leak and Tim Tebow when Florida won the championship in 2006.
Jones may share time or even be declared the starter, but he will have to watch out for head issues in the future. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is a serious problem that has affected many former NFL players and has led to serious mental and physical issues. Jones' health scare may been insignificant, but it may also be something that he needs to watch for in the future.
