The Humane Society of Silicon Valley (HSSV) received a little present in early July: litter of 2-week-old puppies. The puppies were so small that "they came to us in a tupperware container," HSSV's Finnegan Dowling, who is their Social Media Manager, told The Dodo.
The puppies were abandoned under a train station, without their mother anywhere nearby. Sadly, many of the shelters won't even take puppies this young because they typically don't have enough resources to take care of them properly. Luckily, the Humane Society of Silicon Valley, which is located in Milpitas, Calif., has a bottle baby program, and lots of foster families that are trained and equipped with formula and plenty of heart. Dowling also said that the puppies would need attention around-the-clock if they were going to survive.
The shelter staff watched them grow up week by week and began to document their progress as they became stronger. The litter of puppies needed to be brought back every single week for their checkups by their foster families. The first task the puppies had to conquer was simply opening their eyes. Once that was completed, they could move onto developing harder skill sets like being able to walk and run around. The puppies seem to have come around very quickly. With the changes in them, it was hard to believe that these were the same puppies that were brought into HSSV in Tupperware containers. However, the puppies would have to wait a little bit longer before they were old enough to be adopted into forever homes.
Luckily for the puppies, the foster families were able to give them a great start to life, probably the best chance they had. Now the dogs are healthy, happy, and comfortable interacting with humans and are ready to become the best and most loving pets to their new forever home families. Happy endings do exist, as within hours of becoming available for adoption, every single one of the loving and playful puppies found a family! A huge thanks would be given to the foster families, because without them, there isn't any telling where the puppies might be now. "Because there were foster homes we were able to save them," Dowling told The Dodo.
