Jonathan Demme will join forces with Justin Timberlake for a concert film that will showcase the singer's final performance of his 134-date "20/20 Experience World Tour," which took place at the Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena on Jan. 2, according to Entertainment Weekly.
"It's very emotional, very exciting. It's a space age music film," Demme said of the untitled project. The "Stop Making Sense" director also compared Timberlake to a "funky Fred Astaire" before adding, "There's tremendous dancing in this piece. He's got an extraordinary band called the Tennessee Kids. Huge horn section, two lead guitars, two drummers, eight dancers, four exquisite background singers. And we caught them on their last performance," according to Rolling Stone.
Demme was chosen as the recipient of the Visonary Talent Award last week and his other credits include "The Silence of the Lambs" and the recent "Ricki and the Flash," starring Meryl Streep. This isn't the first time the director will be capturing a live performance, having produced and directed a trilogy of concert documentaries for Neil Young, a concert documentary for Kenny Chesney as well as a music video for Bruce Springsteen.
Timberlake is no stranger to the big screen, starring in a number of films such as "The Social Network," "In Time," "Friends With Benefits" and "Runner Runner." The "Sexy Back" singer's last concert documentary film "FutureSex/LoveShow: Live From Madison Square Garden" premiered on HBO and was later released on DVD and Blu-ray in November 2007.
