Recent leaks show that the iPhone 6S will sport a drastic upgrade in the front-facing camera.
The new Facetime camera will now purportedly sport a 5 megapixel lens, a report from KGI Securities suggests, according to 9to5Mac. This should appeal to consumers fond of taking selfies since current iPhones have been stuck with a measly 1.2 megapixel front-facing shooter. It is important to note that 5 megapixels has been the norm for most Android flagship devices this year.
A dedicated camera software upgrade is also reportedly included. For instance, while there is no front-facing flash such as the one found in Motorola Moto X Style model, the software will enable the display to flash white when the user hits the shutter button, according to Mashable. It is now becoming clear that iPhone S iterations are more focused on updating the camera than the external design or internal specifications.
The report follows almost two weeks after the iPhone 6S was rumored to get a an upgrade with a 12 megapixel rear-facing camera.
Taking all the rumors into consideration, it is expected that upgrades can be translated into a 400 percent improvement in camera performance, Forbes noted. The iPhone 6S selfie camera rumor also came with the new information about Apple's alleged decision to drop the sapphire glass that many expect will cover the new iPhone's rear-facing camera. It appears that this is due to dropping concerns. The glass, though more scratch-resistant than Gorilla Glass, is allegedly more brittle, 9to5Mac reported.
Previous rumors indicate that the iPhone 6S will also include the introduction of Force Touch technology, as well as a possible upgrade to RAM and 16/64/128 storage options.
