Tom Izzo and Michigan State already have the number six 2016 recruiting class in the nation after getting commitments from four-star power forward Nick Ward and five-star guard Joshua Langford, but they are nowhere close to done. Four-star point guard Cassius Winston is scheduled to take four official visits this month, and one of those will be to East Lansing, according to Jeff Borzello of ESPN.
Winston has already had an official visit with Stanford, and he will visit Pittsburgh this weekend with Harvard, MSU and Michigan all expected to get official visits later this month. Michigan State has been recruiting Winston very heavily, and they are the overwhelming favorite to land him at this point even before an official visit, according to 247 Sports.
Winston is a Detroit, Mich. native, so the fact that Michigan and Michigan State are at the top of his list is no surprise and at this point it would be an upset if he wasn't a Spartan in 2016. Winston is ranked as the number 28 overall prospect, and the number seven point guard in the 2016 recruiting class, according to Scout.com.
There have been rumors previously that Winston could possibly team up with five-star forward Miles Bridges at Michigan State, and while that is still possible, Kentucky seems like the more likely destination for Bridges.
Winston is a 6-foot-1 point guard who is a willing passer but is also a very good shooter. Winston can make three pointers at a good clip but could also score in the paint. On defense he is solid but is especially good at getting in the passing lanes and getting steals. Winston will have to work on his ball security, like most young point guards, and put on more weight but he should be able to score right away when he gets to college.
Winston will likely wait until after he makes all five of his official visits before making a decision, but, as mentioned before, Michigan State is where most scouts think he will end up. Winston would be Michigan State's third recruit in the 2016 class already with a lot more time for Izzo and company to get commitments from others.
