Bayern Munich is one of the most iconic soccer clubs in the world. Aside from competing in the Bundesliga or UEFA Champions League, Munich has started helping local refugees, according to NPR.org.
Munich is donating 1 million euros for a friendly match that will benefit refugees. Through this, the club looks to establish a "training camp" for youth that will allow them to train at Bayern Munich's complex, receive good meals and soccer jerseys.
Bayern Munich released an official statement on this development on their club website.
Germany is currently experiencing its greatest influx of refugees for many decades. This presents a special challenge to the state and society. FC Bayern München will play an active part in meeting the challenge and, working closely with the city of Munich and state of Bavaria, contribute financial, material and practical help."
Munich is not the only German club helping out the thousands of refugees seeking a new home in Germany. Borussia Dortmund recently invited 220 refugees to a match, according to The Telegraph.
Politically, Munich does not want to be mixed into all the issues pertaining to the refugees. However, this opportunity to help bring in new people to Germany and continue to show that soccer brings all walks of life together.
