Top NFL wide receiver prospects D'haquille "Duke" Williams and Demarcus Robinson are highly sought for the 2016 NFL Draft but come with off-field questions that could hurt their draft status, according to Charlie Campbell at Walter Football.
The bigger concern for character issues is senior receiver Williams, who was suspended from Auburn's bowl game last season and has just recently starting taking reps with the first-team offense, according to James Crepea from AL.com.
In 10 games Williams caught 45 passes for 730 yards and five touchdowns. That's pretty good considering the fact that he was a transfer from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. Williams is 6-foot-2 and provides size at 224 pounds, but he is also quick which makes him a highly sought prospect. Walter Football has Williams as the fourth best wideout in the draft, and if he is productive this season, and most importantly stays out of trouble, he is likely to be a top-five receiver.
Junior receiver Robinson's issues are said to be less impactful on scouts, according to Campbell, but being suspended for a violation of team rules is a red flag for any scout. Robinson had a huge season last year for the Florida Gators, catching 53 passes for 810 yards. Robinson brings size to the league as well at 6-foot-1 and 204 pounds, but if his speed doesn't catch up with the league he may need more weight to box out corners for catches. Robinson is expected to be a top receiver taken in the 2016 NFL Draft, and Walter Football has him going seventh among receivers.
Both Williams and Robinson look to be top prospects for the NFL, but that will only happen if they focus on football and stay away from issues off the field.
