Arkansas Machete Attack Injures Three At University Of Arkansas

A homeless man from Fayetteville, Ark. was arrested for attacking people with a machete in the wooded area on the University of Arkansas campus in the second machete attack in the state this week, according to the North Arkansas Democratic Gazette.

Ashley Kyle Pettey, 36, faces first-degree and second-degree battery and aggravated assault charges for the attack, in which he wielded an 11-inch machete with a serrated blade at three separate people.

University spokesman Steve Voorhies said that the attack happened around 7:15 p.m. Thursday night, FOX News reported. One of the victims is listed in critical condition.

University police Capt. Matt Mills said that Pettey was also injured in the incident, adding that he has been treated at an area hospital and is now under arrest, according to KRMG.

The attacks came when a group of people confronted Pettey about his campsite in the woods. Pettey became upset and refused to move his campsite, resulting in an argument in which he brought out the machete and began attacking the group.

Both victims's had injuries to their necks. "Victim One had to have his neck sutured by a trauma surgeon at the Emergency Room to prevent him from bleeding to death," the official's report stated. The other victim's injuries were not characterized as life-threatening.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, two men were killed in a machete attack in Fort Smith, Ark.. Gregory Aaron Kinsey, 20, was arrested in connection with two counts of capital murder, Arkansas Online reported.
