Memphis Goodwill Raid Linked To DOJ Investigation

The Memphis Goodwill headquarters was raided by federal agents this week, according to CNN. The raid is part of a larger investigation into AbilityOne.

The U.S. Department of Justice is involved in a fraud investigation against AbilityOne and SourceAmerica, the former of which provides work to the disabled. Both AbilityOne and SourceAmerica have denied any wrongdoing and have issued more than one statement to that effect.

More than two dozen agents drove into the Memphis Goodwill headquarters Wednesday, arriving at the corporate offices at 9 a.m. in a caravan of about 10 unmarked vehicles and just as many Memphis police cars. The back of the property was sealed while they gathered evidence.

Agents were there all day, with the last of them leaving the offices at midnight, according to MS News Now. Agents left the building carrying boxes. All employees were questioned and then allowed to go home. Most did not speak to the press.

The raid was coordinated with the U.S. Treasury Department, which has a $9.79 million contract with Goodwill, Inquisitr reported. Goodwill, founded in 1902, provides training and employment for people who have trouble otherwise finding employment. The Treasury contract provides janitorial services for government buildings.

Goodwill stores around Memphis stayed open all day and conducted business as usual while the raid was carried out.
