Archaeologist Discovers Dalmanuth Town and Jesus' Boat Mentioned in The Bible

A well known miracle of Jesus Christ is when he fed 5,000 people with 2 fish and five loaves of bread in the town of Bethsaida. The Gospel of Mark in the Bible states that after conducting this miraculous act, Jesus then sailed to the town of Dalmanuth. Up until now, the existence and location of this town remained unknown.

However, in a recent discovery, archaeologists from University of Reading in the U.K came across a town, which they claim may be Dalmanuth. The town is located on the northwest coast of the Sea of Galilee and dates back more than 2000 years.

Lead author Ken Dark and his team also revealed that a boat, dating to around 2,000 years ago, and uncovered in 1986, was found on the shoreline of the newly discovered town, according to a LiveScience report.

The town and boat are mentioned in the Bible in a verse that reads: "The people ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketful of broken pieces that were left over. About four thousand were present. After he had sent them away, he got into the boat with his disciples and went to the region of Dalmanutha." (Mark 8:8-8:10, New International Version)

"It is hard to imagine that a Roman-period coastal community of this size is nowhere mentioned in textual sources, and the site might be identified with one of the unlocated toponyms known from the Bible, perhaps the Dalmanutha of Mark 8:10," said Dark.

Dark also revealed that the new boat discovery combined with "eights and stone anchors" and "the access to beaches suitable for landing boats" led authors of the study to believe that the area was involved in fishing.
