Laura Stuardo: Cruise Ship Passenger Awakens From Coma, Denies Suicide Attempt

An attempted murder investigation has been sparked after Laura Stuardo, the survivor of a once alleged suicide attempt, woke up from her coma and revealed to investigators that she didn't try to commit suicide.

Stuardo, 53, who works at a bank in northern Italy, told police that she fell at some point during an argument with her spouse in their cabin on the Costa Fortuna luxury cruise ship on July 19, The Washington Post reported.

She claims that she can't remember how she wound up falling 115 feet into the depths below, but is certain that it wasn't due to a suicide attempt.

"I don't remember if he pushed me, but I certainly didn't want to commit suicide," she said, according to eCanadaNow. "It was an extremely long drop. I screamed, then there was the impact with the water. I don't remember anything else."

Her partner, 55-year-old Giovannia Pia, reportedly tried to stop her from falling but was unable to reach her in time.

While police have yet to name Pia as a suspect or identify any suspects for that matter, according to Fox News, it might only be a matter of time until they do.

Stuardo claims that their relationship had been rocky ever since he became violent upon returning home drunk after damaging his car.

In addition, even though the cruise was supposed to be an attempt to mend their relationship, Stuardo refused to let Pia visit her in the hospital, a decision authorities might choose to look into as the investigation continues.
