Wide receiver James Jones is returning to his former team, the Green Bay Packers, as he and the organization are signing a deal, according to NFL reporter Ian Rapoport.
Last season was Jones only season outside of Green Bay, and teaming back up with the 2015 NFL MVP in Aaron Rodgers is likely to feel lifting for the receiver. This will be Jones' eighth year with the Packers, and his seventh season with Rodgers starting. When Green Bay won their last Super Bowl in 2010, Jones was a significant part of the team. In the 2010 season, Jones had 50 receptions for 679 yards and five touchdowns. Jones has had some great years in Green Bay, and in 2012 he caught 14 touchdowns for the Packers.
Mike McCarthy and the Packers will likely be hoping to see an impact out of Jones this season. The Packers have already lost Jordy Nelson to a knee injury this season, and Randall Cobb has been dealing with a sprained right shoulder.
Cobb plans to be right on the field with Jones, as he said, "I don't plan on missing a game," according to Packers reporter Ryan Wood. "I'm doing everything in my power to get back before then, but we still don't know severity. We've still got to get a lot of the swelling out. It definitely is a lot better then what we all thought it was in the beginning."
Without Nelson and a questionable Cobb, makes Jones signing seem like a relief to the Packers. Adding Jones gives the Packers six wide receivers on their active roster, but luckily for them they have the 2015 MVP in Rodgers.
