Ohio State RUMORS: Cardale Jones Starting Against Virginia Tech

Ohio State's junior quarterback Cardale Jones is expected to start Monday against Virginia Tech, according to Joe Scad of ESPN.

Jones took college football by storm last season, and led Ohio State to a National Championship. Jones threw 860 yards and seven touchdowns down the stretch last season, and his play helped lift them over Oregon in the championship game.

Jones had a health scare this past week, but he seems fine to resume his position as the starter on Monday.

Jones is expected to get the start over J.T. Barrett who also had a phenomenal season before getting injured. Barrett had thrown 2,834 yards and 34 touchdowns before his injury.

The Buckeyes are traveling to Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va., for their opener against the Hokies. Virginia Tech was the only team to beat the Buckeyes last season, and it is likely head coach Urban Meyer has his team amped for this game.

Ohio State is defending their title this season, and are led by star running back Ezekiel Elliot. The Hokies are probably less concerned with their opponent's quarterbacks, as they are with Elliott. Last season Elliott rushed for 1,878 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Jones will need big play from his running back, so that holes can open up in the passing game. Jones can throw the deep ball, but he is also a threat on the ground, averaging 4.1 yards per carry last season.

Jones will likely need an impressive win to feel confident about his spot, because Barrett will likely be anxiously waiting his opportunity.
