It's official, Apple has launched the biggest update to its operating system since the App Store first "opened" in 2008. As millions of Apple iPhone and iPad users download the new update, with completely new textures, design and features the tweets and statuses either in favor or against the redesign will start to roll out. In the meantime, it's a good time to see what some of the experts in the tech industry, who have had the new operating system for a while, have to say.
"iOS 7, along with the iPhone 5C, represent the return of Apple's embrace for color. Bright, saturated hues are pervasive throughout the new design, most notably in its new revised "flat" app icons," writes IGN in its review.
Clearly referencing the John Ive inspired design of the new operating system which focuses heavily on vibrant colors and 2D variations of all the original icons that have been with iOS since its beginning. Apple has sacrificed a 3D look for a flatter but easier to manage look.
"While the updated look is the most noticeable feature, there are plenty of other changes deserving attention. There's the new Control Center (which gives you quick access to a handful of settings and apps)," writes ComputerWorld.
This Control Center is one of the simplest but most effective additions to the iOS design that will put all of the most frequently used settings like the Wifi finder, airplane mode, brightness and volume toggles and much more with just an upswipe of your finger.
Siri even gets an upgrade as well. She can now be a he and can do a lot more functions.
"It can even quickly survey nearby restaurants with open tables for a specific number of people at a set time so you can make a reservation directly from within the Siri interface. Performance has been improved in some areas, with Siri detecting inquiries faster and more accurately, but there are still times when it can be slow or produce erroneous results," writes IGN. "Siri is more useful and precise with iOS 7, but it's still somewhat of a novelty function and its lack of third-party app integration remains one of its biggest limiting factors."
