UPDATE 11:28 a.m. EDT:
Tony Posnanski told HNGN that he and Tommy Campbell are "both hug fans of @midnight and wanted to play!"
@KimESTAqui this is the story of the hashtag. We are both huge fans of @midnight and wanted to play! https://t.co/f0sn9qm6SU
— Tony Posnanski (@tonyposnanski) September 8, 2015
So, the tweets won't be featured on the show, but Campbell has culled the best of them and these two might be our favorites:

— Evan Leslie Jones (@Frodeziac) September 8, 2015
Eat, Prey, Ignore #KittenBlockbusters @midnight — Christopher Winfield (@IshtarMovie) September 8, 2015
It all started with two tweets and became the number one trending topic in the U.S! "Well, it was more than that," Campbell told HNGN. "As I mention, we engaged and retweeted and both have powerful accounts etc. I think it was great fun and lot of people got big tweets out of it."
The power of the internet combined with the power of comedy and kittens. Bravo!
It all started with these two tweets:

Meow The West Was Won #KittenBlockbusters @midnight

Cat points!
UPDATE 6:34 a.m. EDT: A concerned netizen believes that the hashtag war in question was actually started by actor/comic Tommy Campbell and HuffPost contributor Tony Posnanski at 8 p.m. PDT on Tuesday "just for fun," not by the show/Twitter account @Midnight. HNGN has reached out to the two gentlemen for more information.
Fun stuff. Except this tag was started by @MrTommyCampbell and @tonyposnanski ... not @midnight https://t.co/fxVeDpUkYs — The # Queen (@SinCityChiGirl) September 8, 2015
@Midnight is a comedy panel show that airs nightly on Comedy Central and is hosted by Chris Hardwick. The show is known for its panel of celebrities and comedians that dish on the latest viral video or make snappy comments about celebrities. Oh, and the show is also the proud mama of hashtag wars. "Hardwick throws out a topic for the three-comedian panel to riff on in sort of a joke lightning round," wrote the New York Post. "Hardwick, and the show's Twitter account, also asks the audience to keep the game going. The gags on Twitter come from a mix of established stand-ups (Judah Friedlander, formerly of '30 Rock,' sometimes chimes in), up-and-comers and just regular funny folks at home." If you've ever hopped on Twitter after the midnight hour and have seen something like this:

or this:
