A club promoter has accused Chris Brown of bailing on a scheduled appearance during Atlanta's 2015 Gay Pride weekend, reported the Root. Brown responded to the allegations via his Twitter account, claiming he was never booked for the event in the first place.
"I wasn't aware or informed of a show I supposedly cancelled. I have nothing but love and respect for the LGBT COMMUNITY," tweeted Brown. "The show was never confirmed by any of my people. So I apologize if the fans wanted me there."
Brown took to Twitter to clear his name after Melissa Scott, of the lesbian-owned entertainment group Traxx Girls, claimed the "Loyal" singer failed to show up at Atlanta nightclub The Georgia Freight Depot Saturday for the "biggest girl party in the country," reported the Georgia Voice. Scott alleged that the singer refused to perform because gay men were also in attendance, along with an estimated 4,000 women.
"I think it's unfortunate for mainstream artists to take people's money with the complete prior knowledge of knowing what the event is and being very clear about what the event is about," Scott told the Georgia Voice. "I'm completely baffled. You know it's gay pride. You knew you agreed when you sent the contract in and took the money."
Scott said she realized Brown would be a no-show when a text message conversation with Brown's team dragged on until 2 a.m., and she had to call in rapper Fetty Wap to take Brown's spot. But Brown maintains that his "people" never confirmed the gig and spoke out against allegations that he failed to perform for homophobic reasons.
"I honestly wasn't booked for the show," he tweeted. "Hopefully in the future we can do it right. Much love LGBT."
